Who Has to File Modelo 100?

  • All Spanish tax residents earning over certain thresholds.

  • Expats who live in Spain more than 183 days a year.

  • Individuals with income from Spanish or foreign sources, including pensions, salaries, investments, or property.

  • Some non-residents with income generated in Spain may have other forms (e.g., Modelo 210), but not this one.

Tip: Even if you’re not required to file due to low income, it might still benefit you if you are entitled to refunds or tax credits.

What Income Must Be Declared?

– Salaries and wages (Spanish and foreign)

– Self-employment or freelance income

– Investment income (dividends, interest)

– Capital gains (from selling property, crypto, etc.)

– Rental income

– Pensions from abroad (some are taxable, some not)

– Bank interest from overseas accounts

Common Mistakes Expats Should Avoid

  • Not declaring foreign income

  • Assuming foreign pensions are tax-free

  • Missing the deadline

  • Ignoring local tax residency rules

  • Not filing even if income is under the threshold (some still must declare)
