Het mooiste dorp in Malaga volgens "The Times"

Genalguacil, a small typical Malaga village in the heart of the Genal Valley can presume to be one of the most beautiful representatives of rural Andalusia.

Bekend als de “museum village“, with more than 200 works of art in its streets, it has been named the most beautiful village in Malaga by The Times.

With just over 500 habitants and an altitude of 590 metres. Its name comes from Genna-Alwacir, which means “Gardens of the Wazir”, and it is one of the villages that forms part the region of the Serranía de Ronda.

Its narrow, winding streets are surrounded by typical Andalusian whitewashed houses. The combination of classical street art and contemporary street art attracts many tourists and new residents every year. It is a paradise for all art and nature lovers.

The landscape surrounding the village is also impressive.

With more than 90% of its territory covered by forests, it invites you to explore the unspoilt nature of the Serranía de Ronda. And to cool off on the hottest days, nothing better than a dip in the river Genal, one of the best places to enjoy fresh water in Andalusia.

Why is there so much art in Genalguacil?

Surely you must have wondered why this village is full of art. The explanation is that in the 90’s, an initiative called “Encuentros de arte” (Art Encounters) was born.

From this initiative, every year 7 international and national artists are invited to create some artistic manifestation in the village, from graffiti and tiles to more complex works of art.
